In my other life as a regular person who actually enjoys (and is influenced by) the music of other artists, I am an avid Rush fan, among other bands. Rush had a major influence on my music going way back to the early 1980’s when a 15 year old drummer named Ray – who we were interviewing for our band – educated me about Rush, Neil Peart, the connection between Peart and Ayn Rand, and the epic stories of 2112, The Fountain of Lamneth, Cygnux X-1, and the continuation of the story in the song Cygnus X-1 Book II Hemispheres. Up until that time, I did not know anything about Rush. Then me and my bass player Steve Weiloszynski (Stabon Plaizon) purchased Caress of Steel (in vinyl – vinyl was the only way back then) and we listened to it over and over and over again in my little basement apartment in New Milford, CT.
Anyway, my love affair for Rush is something I should document in another blog post and probably will. But for now, enjoy this guitar performance of the first half of Cygnus X-1 Book II Hemispheres from the Hemispheres
album by Rush.
